Day 3: Show me the $$$

Hey guys!

So basically we've been working away at our project and guess what? We decided we are going to try really super duper hard to get a mall to agree to our project! Cool huh? We already drafted the letter and everything, and its one of those outdoor malls so it should be fun (now all we have to do is pray for no rain, cuz that would suck... especially because we are trying to do this in April. So keep your fingers crossed that the April showers brings May flowers saying is just a lie).

Anyways, as we wait for the mall, we've been going through some smaller fundraising ideas and this is what we've got:
-         Going to a restaurant and seeing if they are willing to do a kidsave night (these would include stuff like Baja Fresh, Ice Skating Rinks, CPK, Subway, Coffee Bean, Islands, and Chipotle). We aren’t really sure which one would be most wiling to do it…
-         Movie night! Bringing back that time where we actually watched movies on projectors rather than our iphones, computers, ipads, and any other little devices we stuff in our pockets. The only problem is that we need to somehow locate one of those huge screens and a projector.
-         Bakesale (yummy), typical right?  Well the one cool thing about ours is that we are trying to get henna and probably charge $3-5 dollars. I get to do something I love and raise money for a good cause. So that’s underway at the moment.

I guess we’re off to a good start, but we have to get so much permission for EVERYTHING that I feel as though we are five years old rather than two seniors almost about to graduate, *sigh* but that’s life, better get used to it now…

Keep ya posted!

Day 2: Ready, Set, Think!

Hey guys,
So basically we’ve been thinking (don’t worry our brains are still functioning…for now) and we decided that we are probably going to contact a mall for our scavenger hunt. However, there are some specifications that are a little difficult to meet, like it can’t be too crowded (wouldn’t want anyone getting lost), it has to be somewhat contained (so basically no malls that are miles and miles long with TONS of shopping to do), and it has to be pretty neutral (I mean what are a bunch of teenage boys going to do in girly shops right?). We think we may have found an area that would be perfect, but we still have to contact a bunch of people to see if they would even be willing to let a bunch of kids run around (even though that’s what kids do at malls anyways *sigh*).
Anyways, while we are waiting on that, we’ve been brainstorming some ideas for fundraising events. We don’t really have a budget, but we are trying to keep the costs minimal, considering that we will have to fundraise all the event costs. Soooo, we created a long list of potential fundraising ideas for the moment:
-         Food truck night: I mean who doesn’t love gourmet food trucks? The only problem is where to find them, and where to put them? And how DO you even fundraise with these massive things?
-         Movie night: It IS a cute idea, buy a ticket, bring a blanket, maybe even a date, and you just get to sit back and enjoy some movie (though the actual movie choice might be a little difficult to settle on, especially when one of us like mushy chick flicks  (yuck) and the other won’t settle for a movie unless there’s some action and a couple of wild chases)
-         Bake sale: Yummy!
-         Car wash: Though it might be a little chilly…..
-         Dance: A dance floor, a dj, and some good snacks….all that’s left is the people to PARTAY!
Right now we’re just debating the success rate of the following events, and whether or not they are actually possible to complete, and we are totally open to new ideas. Thankfully, we just finished our final proposal (YAY!) so now, let the fun begin as we tackle our long long long list of things to do.
Keep you posted!

Day 1: Introduction

Hello!
We are two seniors in high school doing our senior project together. For our project, we decided to team up with the organization called KidSave which connects foster kids to potential parents and mentors for foster kids. Their website is: http://kidsave.org/ if you want to check it out. They have a really inspiring video on their home page that we recommend!
We are helping the organization by hosting an event that will help potential parents and mentors meet foster kids and hopefully adopt them in the long run. Considering the fact that most of these kids are teenage boys, it has been a little difficult to figure out something that would be cool for both kids and parents. After long debates and sleepless nights (haha just kidding), we brainstormed many ideas. At first we were thinking of doing a picnic or a sport event, but realized that wouldn’t work because there is a mix of athletic ability. We were thinking of bowling or miniature golfing but decided it would not be very interactive. So after long debates between the two of us, most of which Kelly won, (not really)  we decided that we should host a scavenger hunt like the Amazing Race which will hopefully help the kids interact with the adults without feeling as though they are put on display.
Although this seems to be a fairly simple idea, it has turned out to be more difficult than either of us expected. Along with trying to figure out fundraising ideas and sponsors, we have been struggling with potential locations because of certain specifications (aka we don’t want kids running off, getting lost, or getting hurt….or anything else that might happen when you put teenagers together).
Here is what we have so far:

-          An office building
-          A Town Center
-          Mall
-          Aquarium
-          Park
Hopefully we will come to agreement on something soon…(but knowing us this might take awhile J )
Update you later!
