Day 1: Introduction

Hello!
We are two seniors in high school doing our senior project together. For our project, we decided to team up with the organization called KidSave which connects foster kids to potential parents and mentors for foster kids. Their website is: http://kidsave.org/ if you want to check it out. They have a really inspiring video on their home page that we recommend!
We are helping the organization by hosting an event that will help potential parents and mentors meet foster kids and hopefully adopt them in the long run. Considering the fact that most of these kids are teenage boys, it has been a little difficult to figure out something that would be cool for both kids and parents. After long debates and sleepless nights (haha just kidding), we brainstormed many ideas. At first we were thinking of doing a picnic or a sport event, but realized that wouldn’t work because there is a mix of athletic ability. We were thinking of bowling or miniature golfing but decided it would not be very interactive. So after long debates between the two of us, most of which Kelly won, (not really)  we decided that we should host a scavenger hunt like the Amazing Race which will hopefully help the kids interact with the adults without feeling as though they are put on display.
Although this seems to be a fairly simple idea, it has turned out to be more difficult than either of us expected. Along with trying to figure out fundraising ideas and sponsors, we have been struggling with potential locations because of certain specifications (aka we don’t want kids running off, getting lost, or getting hurt….or anything else that might happen when you put teenagers together).
Here is what we have so far:

-          An office building
-          A Town Center
-          Mall
-          Aquarium
-          Park
Hopefully we will come to agreement on something soon…(but knowing us this might take awhile J )
Update you later!

  1. I love that y'all are doing this! What a great and purposeful senior project! I'm not sure if y'all are anywhere near me (near Atlanta, Ga) so I'm not sure how much help I could be, but if you can think of any way I can help, I'd love to. :)

  2. Unfortunately we are on the other side of the country, but thank you for your consideration, we really appreciate it! The only thing we can think of is to help raise awareness of our cause by spreading our blog and twitter. Thanks!!
